Papez's theory of emotion
n. Papez (1937) enhanced the Cannon theory by refining the neuroanatomical structures involved and introducing complex feedback paths of the Papez circuit. According to Papez, affective experience is the result of information flowing through the following loop: sensory apparatus to the hippocampus to the fornix to the mammillary bodies to the mammillothalamic tract to the anterior thalamic nucleus to the genu of the internal capsule to the cingulate gyrus to the cingulum to the parahippocampal gyrus to the entorhinal cortex to the perforant pathway and finally back to the hippocampus.
