psychosocial stressor
n. Any life situation to which an individual reacts with unusually high levels of tension and anxiety, which increase the likelihood of both mental and physical pathology. Examples of psychosocial stressors include marriage conflict, divorce, death of a close friend or relative, isolation, poor relationships at work, loss of a job, change of residence, or severe illness or disability.
