Guttman scale
n. An attitude scale which has its items arranged in a hierarchy so that agreement with any item implies agreement with all items below it on the list. Guttman Scales are constructed through scalogram analysis, in which a pool of potential items are administered to a group, who mark the items with which they agree. Items are then selected which can be formed into the hierarchy Guttman Scales require.
