postpartum depression

n. A period beginning shortly after the birth of a child in which a woman begins to have a depressed mood every day or almost every day, loses interest in normal pleasures, and may have sleep problems, marked change in diet, feelings of anxiety, low energy, and chronic fatigue despite sleeping, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty in concentrating, and thoughts of death or suicide. These symptoms usually disappear within a few weeks.
