reactive attachment disorder
n. An age-inappropriate and markedly disturbed pattern of social relating in children under 5 years of age resulting from grossly inadequate parental care with inhibited and disinhibited types. The inhibited type involves excessive behavioral inhibition with hypervigilance, frozen watchfulness, and failure to feel comforted by contact with or ambivalence toward a parent or other attachment figure. In the disinhibited type the child shows indiscriminate sociability without appropriate attachment to his or her caregiver.
