Pygmalion effect
n. A form of self-fulfilling prophecy in which the expectations of a leader or person of high social status are fulfilled by his or her followers or social subordinates. Thus a teacher's expectations of his/her students tend to be reflected in student behavior such as performance on IQ tests and the expectations of managers to be reflected in the behavior of their subordinates.
