ultimatum game

n. In gaming theory, a two-person game in which a prize is split by the two players: one player is allowed to suggest a division of the prize and then the second player either accepts or rejects the suggested division. If the second player accepts the prize, then the prize is split as suggested, and if the second player rejects the split, then neither of the two players receives anything. Second players tend to reject offers of less than about a third of the prize even though they get nothing if they reject and report they believe such a division unfair, while in classical gaming theory they should accept an offer even as low as a penny as something better than nothing. Number one players usually offer much more than a penny and often offer 50%.
