closed question

n. A question which must be answered by selecting from a limited set of responses such as true/false or multiple-choice items on an exam or a question like "Did you turn left or right?" Closed questions control the responses of a partner in conversation and limit his/her ability to express his/her ideas while open-ended questions such as "What do you think about X?" generally share control of the conversation and lead to greater exchange of information and greater openness and satisfaction with the conversation of the responder.
