delay conditioning

n. A form of classical conditioning in which the duration of the conditioned stimulus is gradually extended until there is a considerable time lapse between the beginning of the conditioned stimulus and the unconditioned stimulus. Pavlov found that eventually the organism delays the conditioned response until near the end of the prolonged conditioned stimulus.
