voodoo death

n. The death of a person after a curse by a voodoo priest or sorcerer. This has been observed primarily among members of the cultures of Haiti, Africa, Australia, and some islands in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean in which there is a strong belief in the power of such curses. No satisfactory mechanism for the deaths has been discovered by science, although they are widely supposed to be due to the power of suggestion.
