refractory period

n. 1. A short and variable period of time after orgasm in which sexual desire is not present and in which sexual response is limited. 2. A short period after a neuron has been depolarized in which it does not depolarize again. 3. A variable period of time after a particular behavior has occurred in which that behavior is unlikely to recur.
