n. An enduring pattern of adjustment characterized by chronic expressed hostility which predisposes individuals who have it to coronary heart disease. The original formulation of type A included competitiveness, high achievement motivation, status insecurity, and impatience, which have not been found to be associated with coronary heart disease.
