The second stage of the general adaptation syndrome, which is characterized by active coping with a stressor and stabilization at an elevated physiological state, including high blood pressure, rapid pulse rate, elevated serum noradrenaline level, and narrowed attentional focus, during which physiological resources are used up more rapidly than usual and may become depleted if the state is prolonged.
