n. A term used by Jean Piaget to explain one way in which we confront new information. Accommodation occurs when we are faced with new information that we cannot incorporate in our existing knowledge or schemes. Thus, we must alter our existing knowledge to integrate this new information. Accommodation is a process that works in conjunction with the process of assimilation.  -SRB
