phenomenological method
n. A research method in which data consists of an individual's record or description of his or her experience. In the pure form of the method, the experiential data is analyzed without reference to anything not experienced. In less pure forms, the experiential data is used to form hypotheses concerning objectivist theories concerning human function such as in rating the effectiveness of a drug in blocking pain or the effectiveness of meditation in lifting depression.
