equipotentiality
n. 1. The archaic theory that different areas of the cerebral cortex are equally involved in performing different functions and can take over those functions if one part is damaged. This is now known not to be generally true as many parts of the cortex are specific in function but may be true of some limited areas of the cortex. 2. The state of having equal potential, as identical twins at birth may be considered to have equal intellectual potential.
