n. In both men and women, a recurrent or persistent pain in the genitals before, during, or after sexual intercourse which significantly interferes with normal sexual or interpersonal functioning which is called dyspareunia or, in women only, vaginismus, which is involuntary and uncomfortable contraction of the perineal muscles around the outside of the vagina when something is inserted in the vagina and which interferes with normal sexual or interpersonal functioning.
