twin study

n. A research design in which pairs of twins are compared, usually to compare the relative contributions of heredity and postnatal development. A frequently used design compares the similarities of fraternal and identical twins on a dimension of interest in an attempt to control for environmental similarities, which is at best partially successful as families are different for each person in them.
