Thought characteristic of children from 2 to 6 or 7 years of age, in which the child is egocentric and gradually develops both linguistic and mathematical symbolic thinking, including the ideas of conservation, predicate thinking, and transductive reasoning. Near the end of this period a child begins to develop the capacity to understand events from others' points of view.
