latent inhibition

n. 1. In conditioning, previous exposure to a potential conditioned stimulus without its being paired with the unconditioned stimulus, which makes acquisition of the conditioned response more difficult. 2. The capacity to reduce or shut out part of the stream of sensory information. Low levels of this ability are supposed to be related to psychosis and creativity, depending on the individual's capacity to manage the high information load.
