Rorschach test

n. A personality test in which the subject is presented with inkblots and asked, “What might this be?” It was developed by Hermann Rorschach and includes 10 inkblots, some in black, white, and gray, and some in color. Responses are scored for form, color, movement, detail, thematic content and whether the whole figure is included, whether it is a popular response, and whether humans are present. It has been found to be lacking in reliability and so its use is declining. Another inkblot test, constructed by Wayne Holtzman, uses 30 inkblots and can be reliably scored, but its use has never grown widespread despite its psychometric advantage over the Rorschach test.
