insulin
n. A hormone synthesized in the pancreas which controls blood sugar level by making it easier for sugar molecules to pass through cell membranes. Chronically insufficient insulin level is called diabetes; it results in excretion of sugar in the urine. High elevations of insulin level cause low blood sugar level (hypoglycemia) and can cause fatigue, coma, convulsions, and death.
