penetrance

n. In genetics, the degree to which the characteristic(s) associated with a particular form of a gene or allele is actually expressed in the living organism. Penetrance of an allele can vary from 100%, or complete penetrance, in the case of some dominant alleles, to some lesser proportion, depending on its interaction with its complementary allele and 
its physiological environment.
