n. Any form of initiation or age-specific behavior which a culture deems appropriate for persons moving from childhood to adulthood. Almost all cultures have such rites, and they vary tremendously from one culture to another. In most of the United States getting a driver's license is such a rite while among traditional Tiwi people of Australia radical circumcision and going walkabout were puberty rites.
