Hans, Little

n. The name assigned to a little boy in a published case history in which Sigmund Freud traced a phobia for horses back to the boy's castration anxiety. This was caused by anxiety over masturbation, hatred and envy of his father, and sexual desire for his mother and the guilt these entailed, all of which were projected onto horses.
