arcuate nucleus

n. 1. An arch-shaped area in the hypothalamus containing the cell bodies of neurons that produce hormones. 2. Any of numerous small groups of neurons on the surface of a pyramidal area of the medulla oblongata which are extensions of pontine nuclei associated with facial sensations.
