n. A point on the surface of a dendrite that has an electrochemical configuration which will cause certain neurotransmitters and other similarly shaped chemicals to bind to it temporarily. This changes the electrochemical state of the dendrite in ways which tend either to inhibit or to excite electrical impulses in the neuron of which the dendrite is a part.
