n. In operant conditioning, a reinforcement pattern in which the target behavior is reinforced only a predetermined proportion of the time. Thus a behavior may be reinforced every 10th time it is emitted. This type of schedule leads to behaviors that are more resistant to extinction than are those conditioned through continuous reinforcement.
