A cognitive style with a preference for thinking in conventional or preconceived patterns, which contrasts with an uncertainty preference, in which new ideas and experiences are preferred and explored. 3. A values dimension that differentiates cultures from each other: some cultures are high on uncertainty avoidance, adopting rituals to avoid the anxiety of the unknown, while some are low.
