n. A muscular canal leading from the labial opening to the uterus in female mammals. The interior of the vagina is lined with mucus membrane which is kept moist by secretions from Bartholin's glands located on each side of the vaginal opening, facilitating intercourse, whose failure to secrete lubricant is a cause of dyspareunia, or painful intercourse.
