randomized double-blind experiment
n. An experiment in which subjects are assigned by a chance process to treatment groups without either the subject or the experimenter knowing which treatment any subject receives. This is done to reduce the likelihood that the expectations of either subjects or experimenters will affect the outcome of the study so that comparisons between a treatment and a control group or between treatment groups are more likely to be due to the effects of the treatment.
