activity wheel

n. A drum usually made of thin bars or wire which is suspended horizontally so that an animal may walk continually up the drum, which rotates as the animal walks in it. This is common in cages and enclosures for small pets such as hamsters and mice and is also used to measure the activity levels of animals in experiments.
