Troxler effect

n. The subjective fading of a stimulus in the periphery of vision when vision is fixated steadily elsewhere but attention is focused on the stimulus object, which has been attributed to adaptation in the rods involved in the portion of the retina receiving stimulation from the object. Also called Troxler fading.
