multimodal therapy
n. An outgrowth of behavior therapy in which the therapist assesses the client's behavior, affective responses, sensations, imagery, cognitions, interpersonal relationships, and need for drugs (the first letters of which form the acronym BASIC ID) in the belief that these modalities interact with one another so that changing one will alter the others. The therapist and client form an agreement on which are the most salient problems discovered in the initial assessment and begin trying to alter them in a more positive direction using procedures drawn from all areas of learning theory.
