n. The observation of numerous acts of violence through the medium of television as occurs thousands of times during the childhoods of most children in the United States and many other countries. This has been an area of controversy: many studies show that such exposure both desensitizes individuals to violence and provides role models for the expression of violence, and other studies question the controls of such studies.
