n. The inability to resist impulses to wager or bet in a pattern that causes significant discomfort and distress to the individual or the persons around her/him. This is one of many impulse-control disorders, all of which involve inability to resist an impulse to engage in a pattern of behavior the person knows is dysfunctional and feels unable to resist despite his or her best efforts to do so.
