unipolar neuron

n. A sensory neuron in the skin that has a single extension from the cell body which branches in one direction to become the axon, sending impulses toward the spinal column and in another direction to act as the dendrite, which receives messages from a sensory transducer in the skin. Also called monopolar neurons.
