wavelength

n. The distance between peaks of successive waves measured in the direction of propagation in any medium. Wavelength is equal to the speed of the wave divided by its frequency. The wavelengths of light visible to humans extend from violet at about 380 nanometers to red at about 760 nanometers. The wavelengths of sounds that humans can hear range from about 1.7 meters to about 21.5 meters.
