XXX syndrome

n. A randomly occurring genetic defect in which a female has three instead of two female chromosomes. Most individuals who have this disorder have no negative symptoms and are not diagnosed. The most common effects are being taller than and having an IQ that averages about 10 points lower than siblings; a moderate increase in the probability of learning disabilities is also associated with the syndrome.
