n. In psychoanalysis, a girl's envy of the perceived power of a man's penis to make the mother love him instead of the girl. Girls try to overcome this envy by possessing the power of a man's penis through sex or marriage so as to obtain the mother's love, usually expressed as approval and given evidence by bearing a child.
