n. Any word which denotes relatedness in extended families. Languages and cultures vary considerably in such terminology. In the Japanese language, for example, there are different words for older and younger brothers and sisters. And in some languages and cultures there are religious or adopted kinships such as godfather in many Catholic cultures.
