Scholastic Assessment Test

n. (SAT) A timed omnibus test of academic achievement including sections on reading and critical thinking, mathematics, and writing ability used by many colleges and universities as a criterion for admission. It also has many subtests in a variety of academic subject areas, which are widely used for class placement in colleges and universities and sometimes for advanced standing or college credits. Formerly known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
