ratio reinforcement

n. A procedure in training in which a predetermined proportion of target behaviors are rewarded. Ratio reinforcement typically takes longer to establish a high likelihood of the target behavior than does continuous reinforcement, but, once established, the target behavior is more resistant to extinction than is that established through continuous reinforcement. Ratio reinforcement can be variable or remain the same over time.
