supplementary motor area

n. A part of area 6 of the precentral gyrus that is involved in planning complex movement, often involving both hands, with reference to memory rather than to visual stimuli. This brain area appears late in brain evolution, appearing in many monkey brains but lacking in brains of some other mammals.
