computed (axial) tomography
n. (CT or CAT scan) A process of generating a three-dimensional set of images of a person's or object's internal structure by using a series of axial X rays, whose images are then connected or filled in using imaging software so as to present computer images that appear whole to the viewer. It is very useful in diagnostic imaging, where it is difficult for a person mentally to fill in between numerous single X-ray images to understand the threedimensional situation.
