conditioning, excitatory

n. Another name for classical conditioning in which the pairing of an unconditioned stimulus (US) with a conditioned stimulus (CS) leads to the establishment of a conditioned response (CR). As an example, if a dog normally salivates when it is presented with food (US) and a bell (CS) is rung before the food is presented several times in a row, the dog will soon begin drooling (CR) when it hears the bell rung without the presentation of food.
