rumor intensity formula

n. A mathematical function R ~ i × a, where R is the intensity of a rumor, i is the importance of the information in the rumor, and a is the ambiguity or uncertainty associated with the rumor which attempts to describe the persistence of particular pieces of gossip. This was formulated by Gordon W. Allport and Leo Postman to describe war rumors during the Second World War.
