blindsight
n. The capacity of some fully or partially blind individuals to detect and react to visual stimuli in their area of blindness without conscious awareness of perception. Blindsight has been demonstrated primarily among persons with damage to the visual cortex, and it is theorized that connections between the optic nerve and the midbrain provide nonconscious forms of visual information processing.
