Any of several brain centers which when stimulated in humans are associated with sensations of pleasure and which rats and other mammals will repeatedly self-stimulate if given the opportunity to do so. These include areas in the hypothalamus, nucleus accumbens, septum pellucidium, other portions of the limbic system, and the medial forebrain cluster.
