A general and somewhat archaic term for any pervasive and enduring pattern of maladjustment that causes significant personal distress but does not involve psychotic features or stem from physiological problems. This includes anxiety disorders, personality disorders, somatoform disorders, dissociative disorders, some sexual disorders, eating disorders, some sleep disorders, impulse control disorders, and adjustment disorders.
